“You can have any colour, as long as it is black”

So said Henry Ford at the start of the Model T production.

We think otherwise – you can have anything you want, and more besides, from the range of enclosures from Vero Technologies.

Whether it is a finished production item, initial sample or development pieces, it pays to produce an aesthetically pleasing, professional implementation to any design, clearly displaying your brand and any user notation or legend.

Vero Technologies offer a customising service to provide you with modifications to your enclosures, front panels or other hardware making changes to features such as colour, notation, holes and the like. Previously surface details such as ident, nomenclature and graphics were applied using silk-screen printing or by engraving, using our CNC or Laser machining centres.

These remain as options however; we have now extended our product offerings and services with the addition of a full colour print capability; now you can get it all done by Vero in a one-stop shop – No more sending it out for printing, raising various purchase orders and handling different suppliers - we take care of the whole process.

Using a specialised inkjet colour printer, notation and images can be created and printed directly onto a range of surfaces using UV curable inks. The Roland LEF2 inkjet printer offers an exceptional level of detail and with a stunning colour palette. In addition to the normal CMYK colour range the printer also features a substrate primer to offset the effect of the base material when printing onto strong colour backgrounds. Another ink option allows for a gloss coating to overprint the image or text for an enhanced effect and additional protection.

The printing is suitable for plastic or metal surfaces and can even accommodate curved sections, such as those featured at the edge of the Veronex range of hand-held enclosures, allowing printing out to the margins.

For the more adventurous designs, it is possible to add a ‘texture’ background image as well as characters – how about a carbon fibre, wood or leather look to your design? …. Your choice!

The inks provide a durable finish, resisting both chemical and physical abrasion and with the existing need for a screen (or typically multiple screens) eliminated, the setup, unit cost and lead time are kept low. Artwork can be imported in a number of formats, or Vero Technologies can generate it for you, and unlike silk screens, is easily scalable or modified. The use of combined inks allows for tonal variation not achievable with screen printing Using the various techniques available, Vero Technologies can produce an enclosure or front panel tailored to your needs.

This is only part of the customisation offered by Vero Technologies. The use of off-the-shelf standard products offers huge benefits, avoiding non-recurring engineering charges and reduced lead times to create a functional and professional enclosure. The ranges have all been proven in the field and offer many features.

Despite all the above benefits, there is still one common requirement …. any standard enclosure will need to be further worked. This may add holes for connectors, switches or indicators/displays or a myriad of other features such as adding legends or mounting fixtures. Typically, this is achieved by doing this secondary operation in-house or is put out to sub-contractors. The latter approach has shortcomings – either wasting product during setup or requiring management of sub-contractors, both from providing the engineering detail to the commercial and quality management of the outsourcing process. All of this can be avoided by using the original manufacturer to implement these requirements – keeping both costs and time-to-market at a minimum. Vero Technologies offer the following customising options: …….

Milling – High speed CNC milling allows complex cut-outs or recesses to be machined into the enclosure. A library of templates is available and with routers down to 0,5mm, complex very high-precision shapes can be provided.

Laser Cutting – Both milling and Laser cutting is performed in-house. The use of laser machining also facilitates accurate larger cut-out features to be created, or very fine features to be created in thin materials, such as adhesive sheet patterns used to mount touch-screen displays.

Engraving – Legends and logos can be engraved in both plastic and metal surfaces, with the option to colour fill if required.

Laser Engraving – when using anodised aluminium panels, it is possible to use laser machining to provide complex images. For high contrast, laser engraving of black anodised panels is extremely effective. Satin anodised aluminium has a more subtle finish

Screen Printing – Ideal where single or multi-coloured solid legends are required on filler panels or the enclosure surface, such as idents or company logos. It offers a durable finish that can withstand considerable wear and tear.

EMC Coatings – Aluminium enclosures offer an intrinsic level of screening; however plastic enclosures can also be customised to also provide an effective screened enclosure. By using different materials and varying the thickness, cost effective screening can be achieved. Vero Technologies can offer coating of the inner surface of plastic enclosures using Nickel, Copper or Silver materials. The graph shows a typical shielding performance of a Silver loaded coating.

Custom Moulding Colours – The range of standard enclosures colours has been carefully chosen to offer an aesthetically pleasing range, with a degree of colour contrasting – typically in black, grey and white. The option remains however for the design to be moulded in virtually any colour, subject to a minimum order quantity. Transparent and semi-opaque options also exist.

Anti-microbial – as part of the moulding process, Vero Technologies offers the ability to load the material with a silver-based additive. This is effective in reducing surface bacteria by up to 99.9% for the life of the enclosure, with an obvious appeal for enclosures used in medical or hygiene sensitive applications. With all these options, our in-house approach to design and manufacture allows us to provide all this in a rapid turnaround service. As well as reducing time-to-market, there are other advantages to using Vero Technologies customising service; Guaranteed 100% yield, a real-term reduction in cost and a reduced vendor base.
