A test extender allows engineers to move a circuit board out from a backplane while keeping it fully connected to the system. During development and testing, prototype boards are usually installed in a backplane environment, but neighbouring circuits often restrict access to components and measurement points. Using an extender board makes it easier to probe signals, inspect components, and carry out diagnostics without removing the board from the system.
